Tummy Tuck
Abdominoplasty (commonly known as a tummy tuck) is a procedure frequently adopted by women following pregnancy or a significant weight loss (when the abdominal muscles have become weak and the skin may have become loose and sagging). This can become embarrassing and cause problems when buying clothing - especially lingerie or swimwear. Despite your best efforts to improve toning and your general appearance through regular exercise and good diet, many women find that unsightly abdominal folds remain.
As a procedure commonly used at the same time as liposuction, a tummy tuck tightens the muscles and removes excess skin leaving you with a firmer and flatter abdomen.
Your questions answered
- What does the procedure involve?
-
A tummy tuck procedure is performed under general anaesthetic by one of our highly experienced MySpa surgeons. An incision will be made to ensure scarring is hidden by underwear or swimwear. Excess fat and skin will then be removed to leave you with a firmer and flatter tummy. The belly button is also repositioned.
- What is the duration of the hospital stay?
-
Since this is one of the more extensive cosmetic procedures, an abdominoplasty typically requires a two-night stay in hospital. You will also be required to wear an abdominal support, day and night, for the first few weeks. We would recommend that you take two to three weeks off work.
MySpa pride ourselves on our after care service. We offer a comprehensive and extensive post operative care programme which includes detailed post operative instructions and follow up appointments with your MySpa surgeon to ensure a speedy recovery.
- How will I feel after the procedure?
-
There will be some temporary pain - swelling, soreness, numbness of abdominal skin, bruising and a little tiredness for several weeks. You should be back to work in 2 to 4 weeks and avoid strenous activity for up to 6 weeks. The scars will fade within 3 months.
After the procedure enjoy renewed confidence, less self conscious with your improved proportions.
