Hyperhidrosis
Sweating is a completely natural and normal function of the human body.
Our body’s sweat in response to changes in our environment, physical activity and our emotions. When sweating occurs at inappropriate times or is excessive this is called Hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis affects both men and women of all ages and can cause great discomfort, anxiety and embarrassment.
Areas affected can include hands, underarms, the face, groin and feet.
For a long time many suffers have simply tried to mask the problem with antiperspirants but this often proves unsuccessful.
The most effective treatment for hyperhidrosis is injections of Botulinum Toxin A or Botox. This treatment is quick, relatively painless and can last up to 12 months
Your questions answered
How do you treat excessive sweating?
We treat excessive sweating with Botulinum A injections (BTX-A)
How does it work?
Botulinum toxin A is a chemical produced by the Clostridium bacteria. BTX-A is a protein derivative of the toxin, which when injected into a muscle causes it to become weakened or inactivated.
Small quantities of Botox are injected into the skin of the affected area which causes the muscle to become weakened or inactivated.
This blocks the action of the nerves that supply the sweat glands and stops them producing sweat.
What areas can you treat?
- Underarms
- Feet
- Hands
- Facial sweating
How long does the treatment take?
It takes around 30 minutes to complete the treatment.
What results can I expect?
On average, you will notice a reduction in sweating 4 to 5 days following treatment.
How long does it last?
Most people notice a slow return to sweating approximately 8-9 months following treatment but it is not uncommon to get 11-12 months of relief. It can then be repeated.
